Kayak More Tomorrow’s Founder, Jonathan Bendiksen is no ordinary waterman, he’s Norway’s most accomplished sea kayak guide with 2250 guiding days on class 1-4 seas along Norway’s fjord indented coastline; is a certified IFSKGIA Senior Guide & Instructor plus an accredited IFSKGIA examiner. A pioneer of commercial sea kayaking, legendary trip designer and lead guide who has designed and guided sea kayaks trips from the Lofoten Islands down through the western fjords as far south as Stavanger.
His unique perspective on the Outdoor Industry comes from over 3 decades designing and leading outdoor adventure trips; he holds an unrivaled insight into Norway’s adventure travel industry. By designing and operating Norway’s first active travel tours he has carved the path for others to follow.
Jonathan has led the Norwegian adventure travel industry from its budding infancy right through to present day by creating and operating multiple sea kayak centers in country. His pioneering work has had a lasting impact on Norway’s Outdoor Industry.
Below is a short synopsis of his achievements in leading Norway’s adventure travel industry.
After returning from Canada, Jonathan founded Sea Kayak Lofoten in 2000. He opened the Lofoten Island’s first and only sea kayak center in Svolvær. Here, he implemented a series of commercial sea kayaking programs that not only serviced Svolvær but the Islands as a whole. Jonathan designed and led day trips all over the islands from the far west in Å and Reine to the far east into the Svellingen Islands and Risvær. Any day trip offered today in the Lofoten Islands is a copy of one of Jonathan’s trips.
As the first internationally certified sea kayak guide leading trips in the islands, he has paddled over 10 000 miles through this chain of islands, circumnavigated them over a dozen times and guided over 5000 guests on spectacular Lofoten trips.
Jonathan, as Head Guide implemented and led a large collection of programs at Sea Kayak Lofoten:
Expanding on his success in the Lofoten Islands, Jonathan opened Sea Kayak Geiranger in 2002. The first sea kayak center in Fjord Norway and the first one in Geiranger. Geiranger’s original sea kayak center.
In Geiranger, Jonathan pioneered a sea kayak cruise passenger excursion, the first company to offer a watersport excursion in Norway. This program grew in popularity and in 2013 at the height of it's prominence exceeded 7000 cruise passengers in a single season.
As well, he scouted out and led every possible day trip on the fjord, his day trip blueprints have been incompetently copied by the outfitters in the fjord today.
His understanding of the fjords and the surrounding mountains makes him an unparalleled expect when it comes to safely planning a sea kayak trip through the fjords. No one has logged as many miles paddling the fjords and can provide the in depth, detailed information needed for a fun, safe fjord paddle.
Jonathan, as Head Guide implemented and led a large collection of programs at Sea Kayak Geiranger:
Ålesund, Norway’s Art Nouveau City
In 2014 Jonathan opened Sea Kayak Ålesund, the first sea kayak center in Norway’s Art Nouveau City.
Ålesund was a natural progression from the fjords as the city of Ålesund was the staging sight for his immensely popular 5-Day World Famous Western Fjords, Ålesund – Geiranger, trip. Where, weekly departures for over 10 years provided Jonathan with ample opportunity to discover Ålesund’s potential as an outdoor adventure venue.
Upon establishing Kayak More Tomorrow in Ålesund, he proceeded to design day trips, overnight trips, cruise excursions, rental programs, etc. He expanded the repertoire of trips offered in Ålesund on a yearly basis to included biking, hiking, SUPing, and multi-sport as well as sea kayaking. His trips became immensely popular, so popular in fact that Norwegian jealously, corruption and governmental fraud & theft became an unsurmountable problem. Today, his trips have been incompetently copied by others. But, don’t be fooled, you can still book his original trips with Kayak More Tomorrow.
