Kayak More Tomorrow sea kayak specialist were the first to design and operate commercial sea kayak trips along Norway's Western Fjords. Nobody knows these waterways better than us and throughout the years no other operator has run as many fjord trips as Kayak More Tomorrow.
Our season of operations on the Fjords is June/July/August/September; below is our Fjords of the Sunnmøre Alps Itinerary to give you an idea of what a paddling trip along the Fjords entails. If you have dreamed of paddling Norway's Western Fjords then please send us an e-mail with your proposed dates and your groups' details; keeping in mind that 6 months advanced booking is required for the Fjords.
Ålesund, an Art Nouveau ‘New Style’ City is the gateway to Norway’s famous western fjords and the Mountains of Sunnmøre. Here majestic fjords have cut their path deep into the Sunnmøre Alps, creating a surreal landscape that is both awe-inspiring and breathtaking. This is an area of raw natural beauty with snow capped mountains, towering granite walls, mountain ledge farms, flowering fruit trees, and quaint villages tucked into small protective bays.
The fjords of Sunnmøre invite to adventure, their charming villages have hosted adventure travelers for generations. Deep in the fjords where the mountains finaly block the sea from penetrating further westward; thundering waterfalls rush down granite walls that climb up 1500m marking the entrance to the famous Jotunheimen Mountain Range, it is here we end our adventures on the fjords of the Sunnmøre Alps.
Fly into Ålesund airport transfer; after checking in to Ålesund’s best boutique hotel there is time to explore this beautiful Art Nouveau city before supper.
DAY 1 – Ålesund to Hundeidvika
After breakfast, we rendezvous at KMT Ålesund; from here we launch our sea kayaks onto Brosundet in the heart of Ålesund beginning our exploration of Fjords of the Sunnmøre Alps. As our sea kayaks glide out of Brosundet we head East onto Borgundfjord passing the island of Sula and exploring its archipelago. Stopping at the point of Flisnes, here we view for the first time mighty StorFjorden; we check the conditions before pushing off for the crossing. Safely across we paddle the short distance to the mouth of Hjørundfjord to our campsite for the night.
DAY 2 – Hundeidvika to Øye
After we break camp we push off early this morning. Launching onto Hjørundfjord with the Sunnmøre Alps towering above us we set course for the abandoned farm at Strandabøen, here we stretch our legs and power-up with and mid-morning snack. Gliding down Hjørundfjord we take out for lunch at Indre-Trandal, here we sample traditional, local, delicacies prepared from ecological ingredients in the fjord ‘s fashion.
After our long lunch break we push-off and point our kayaks towards the light at Lekneset, on the mouth of Norangsfjord. We paddle the short Norangsfjord to the hamlet of Øye where the historic Union Hotel awaits us, after freshings up from 2 days on the fjords we dine on well-deserved and delicious supper before getting a good nights’ rest.
DAY 3 – Øye to Geiranger
After breakfast, we jump into the waiting van for the short ride through one of Norway’s narrowest valleys, past a submersed farm on the way to Hellesylt. We launch our sea kayaks onto Sunnylvsfjord for the short paddle up to the mouth of Geiranger fjord. We enter Geiranger fjord where we paddle past the world-famous waterfalls and mountain ledge farms: Brides Veil, Seven Sisters, Skageflå, and Knivsflå.
We may choose to make the short hike up to Skageflå before continuing to the village of Geiranger; it is here we end our fjords of the Sunnmøre Apls journey. After landing in Geiranger we enjoy a cold drink before our van takes us back to Ålesund for a celebratory dinner and good nights’ rest.
